I Have a Confession – I Don’t Love Valentine’s Day

I wish I didn’t feel this way, but honestly, I think Valentine’s Day is a bit overrated. Am I bitter? Maybe. After years of waiting tables, I’ve noticed that Valentine’s Day brings out diners who rarely go out any other time of the year—and unfortunately, they don’t always tip as well as regulars on a typical Friday or Saturday night. To top it off, I got engaged on Valentine’s Day… and that marriage ended 15 years later.

So, when it comes to creating fun, festive, and romantic Valentine’s Day décor kits for our amazing Entry Envy customers, I struggle. Plus, February follows January—the month when everyone is left wondering, What do we even decorate with after taking down all the holiday décor? The world feels dreary, the days are dark, and honestly… can we just skip ahead to spring already?!

The Inspiration Behind This Year’s Valentine’s Day Kits

While everyone else was celebrating Thanksgiving, I was brainstorming Valentine’s Day décor themes. I love watching holiday movies, and some of the best rom-coms are actually Christmas movies. That got me thinking—why not create a romantic comedy-inspired theme for our February kits? It’s something we’ve never done before, and it felt like the perfect way to shake things up!

I started with a long list of classic romantic comedies that weren’t Christmas-related:

• The Cutting Edge

Narrowing It Down

Then, I started analyzing each movie. For example, The Notebook is a classic, but… they die at the end—not exactly the romantic comedy vibe I was going for. Sweet Home Alabama has some elements that haven’t aged well.

Next, I brainstormed signature “artifacts” from each movie—items that would immediately remind you of the storyline. For example, in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, you might think of the love fern, the dog that pees on the pool table, Knicks tickets, and diamonds. While great individually, they would look chaotic in a single Entry Envy décor kit. So, I kept refining.

Finally, I landed on four rom-coms that not only fit the theme but also had adorable, recognizable décor elements:

1. Runaway Bride
2. The Cutting Edge
3. You’ve Got Mail
4. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Confession: I’ve never actually seen this movie, but the décor was too cute to pass up!)

Bringing the Theme to Life

The next challenge was making sure guests or delivery drivers could instantly recognize the movie theme just by looking at our décor. That’s when we came up with "NOW SHOWING" handmade signs! Each sign was hand-painted and finished with vinyl to create the cutest little theatre-style marquee.

But wait—what’s a movie without lights, camera, and action? After a lot of searching, we found the perfect theater-inspired accessories for this February kit, including:

• Mini movie trays
• Movie tickets
• Popcorn buckets
• Film reels

Each kit also included a battery-operated tea light with a timer (6 hours on, 18 hours off), so it automatically turns on at the same time each day—adding the perfect cozy glow!

A Fun Surprise for Our Subscribers this Valentine's

Before we shipped out our Entry Envy rom-com décor kits, we sent a special survey to our subscribers, asking them to rate their favorite romantic comedies. They didn’t know which movies we had chosen yet—just that the kits would be inspired by rom-coms!
