Behind the Scenes: Crafting January’s Cozy Entry Envy Decor Kits
January: The Month of Winter Decor and Cozy Entry Envy Kits
Ah, January. The days are getting slightly longer, but the grass is still mostly brown in much of the country. We’re post-holidays, the decorations are down, and the house looks “empty.” Family has returned home and thank God the cookies are gone! We’re paying off our credit cards, and there’s not much to look forward to for a while. So, how do I create darling Entry Envy decor kits for you during this seemingly quiet time?
Well, I’ve been working on these kits since October. :)
Designing Year-Round for Entry Envy
I’m constantly shopping for Entry Envy, whether it’s online or in person, and no matter the season. I’m always thinking, “Would this look cute in a decor kit?” Thankfully, my team shares the same mindset. I reject about 90% of the ideas, whether they come from me or someone else. Each item we select goes through many considerations: Can it withstand outdoor elements for at least 30 days? How heavy is it? Will it fit in the box? How do we attach it to the foam base? Does it require additional labor to enhance it? For example, did you know that we wrap every one of our candles with ribbon before shipping? It’s the little details that make a huge difference. Our kits are nothing like something you could pick up off the shelf at a craft store.
Finding the Perfect Theme for January Decor Kits
When I shop, I look for a theme. Our customers love themed kits, and I can’t wait to share our upcoming Valentine’s Day collection. But not yet—we’re still embracing January! I usually have a few ideas in mind, but I always keep an open mind. While shopping in October for January, I came across a black bear Christmas ornament. It was adorable—not as an ornament, but absolutely perfect as a “winter friend” for one of our January kits. And thus began my search for other winter-themed decor.
Finding the right pieces isn’t as easy as it sounds. A snowman seemed like a great idea, but every version I found screamed “Christmas.” I stumbled upon a cute cardinal, but it felt more appropriate for the holidays or a somber occasion—not the right vibe for January. A white fox caught my eye, but it was poorly made and didn’t pass the quality test. My mom found a whimsical gnome. Fun fact: One-third of our customers love gnomes, one-third dislike them, and one-third are indifferent. After ruling out about 20 other options, I finally settled on an ivory bottle brush tree that I loved.
Crafting the Perfect January Decor Kits: Winter Friends and Their Accessories
Once I found my winter friends—the black bear, snowy sparrow, winter gnome, and ivory bottle brush tree—I needed to choose the right accessories to complete each kit. My goal is to ensure you receive only three items that you can easily insert into your sign, but that look like a designer created them. If I get one thing wrong, it’s a miss. Every item matters.
Here’s what’s included in the kits:
- Black Bear paired with modern evergreen and brown thistle.
- Snowy Sparrow adorned with extra snow and sprigs of evergreen.
- Whimsical Gnome (for those who love gnomes!) with feathers for a unique, playful touch.
- Ivory Bottle Brush Tree with soft evergreen, wooden beads, and hints of gold.
These kits are designed to create an experience. Every time you open the box, I want you to feel surprised, delighted, and ready to set up your new pieces with a smile. I want you to be proud of what’s in the box, and I want your entryway to feel special each time you come home.
Designing for Different Tastes: Three Key Personas
When creating the kits, I keep in mind the varied preferences of our customers. To ensure there’s something for everyone, I design with three personas in mind:
- Teri – Our COO, 68, and the queen of subscription box fulfillment.
- Me – The CEO, almost 47, juggling all the roles and overseeing the designs.
- Summer – Our production manager, 28, creative, talented, and organized.
These personas help me blend both modern and classic designs, so there’s something that appeals to different tastes. The accessories I choose for each “winter friend” are what truly define the style, and I always make sure that, once a kit is completed, I’d be proud to display it on my own front porch.
Why I Ship Only Four Kits (Sometimes Fewer)
After carefully considering every option, I decided that four was the fewest number of kits we could ship without compromising quality. I always prefer fewer, better kits rather than more mediocre ones. I hope you’ll love them as much as I do. And stay tuned—February is going to be fabulous! The best part? Our customers get to pick what they love most.
