Celebrating Easter with a Reset Button
Reset Button
Easter is such a beautiful holiday to celebrate. It is a symbol and hope of so much promise. It’s like hitting the reset button on life. On the third day, he rose again. We all have an opportunity to rise again. We get to choose to reset our life at any time without judgment. God loves, not judges.
I made a very powerful choice a little over two years ago to reset my life when I left my marriage. It was the most difficult decision I have ever made. It doesn’t come without tons of guilt, and until I was through the fog, it’s been so unclear whether my decision was the right one. As they say, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, and if Jesus can come back to life, so can we! Metaphorically speaking, of course. But truly, my heart and soul had gotten lost in an unhealthy marriage, and I can confidently say, having now made it all the way through the fog, I am absolutely the healthiest, happiest version of myself today than I can ever remember being.
The second reset button I hit was deciding to resign from a six-figure corporate job as a single mom with two kids to chase a dream called Entry Envy. It was a calculated risk, but a huge risk nonetheless. I was confident I had enough momentum with Entry Envy, positive customer feedback, and supportive people that believed that I could do this! I have always been successful in my jobs, this time would be no different, except I was my own boss. And I'm by far the hardest boss I have ever had! I hold extremely high expectations of myself and my biggest fear in life isn't failing; it's disappointing someone.
Lead by Example
I’m a huge believer in leading by example. In fact, a friend posted this morning a beautiful diatribe about how important small towns are in creating who we are today and always remembering where we came from. The number one value my parents instilled in me is “be nice to everyone because it’s a small town.” It’s not just a small town, though; it’s a small world! The six degrees of separation are spot on.
My daughters are thriving and watching me. Some days, I am pretty sure they might think mom is crazy as she runs from one meeting to the next while on the phone, putting on lipstick, plucking her eyebrows in the review mirror, and living on very little sleep. I’m also sure that they are learning the value of hard work, desirable leadership qualities, how to handle customer service at its finest, and that people matter.
Trust
The team working for Entry Envy, starting with my mother, is why we are thriving. Every team member, internationally and domestic, is essential. The village of people supporting me is critical. I have a list of pages long of people who have contributed in big and small ways to my “reset buttons,” and I am one of the worst people ever to ask for help. However, if there is a single key that I have learned through the fog, it's that we are all here to lift each other up through difficult seasons. Life is hard, don’t try to do it alone.
The lesson I am currently learning and practicing every day is trust. Trust a higher power has a plan for you. Trust yourself. Trust the people around you. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Give people second chances. Let go of all things I cannot control, which is a whole lot more than what I can. The more I trust, the more I let go, the more I love, the less I judge, and the happier and more successful I am. Such a simple concept, but simple doesn’t mean easy. Controlling your mindset every day is not easy, but it’s your most powerful tool. How you live your life is a choice. Live it fully and without regrets. There is no dress rehearsal!
Gratitude
Easter comes at a time the world needs a reset button. It’s a beautiful season of spring blossoms, families reconnecting, children laughing, and people praying. We’re not perfect, but Lord, we live in an AMAZING country. When I come through customs, and the agent says, “welcome back,” I say a little prayer! May we all pray for each other, the less fortunate, world peace, and gratitude.
I would also like to thank everyone for helping make my dream of Entry Envy come true!
Happy Easter!
