Entry Envy's Tips for a Radiant Front Entry this Summer

I live in Omaha, Nebraska, and as I am writing this, I can tell you I am ready for summer! There is a rule here that many women follow... don’t plant your flowers before Mother’s Day for the risk of one last frost. Considering it's supposed to be 43 tonight; we’re not too far off!

I am in the midst of an entire exterior renovation project, so we’re talking about the front entry and so much more! I moved into my house four years ago and remodeled the entire inside, and as I was nearing completion, I started a little company called Entry Envy and ran out of time for everything else in my life, including the yard! 😂

I’m still crazy busy, but I can’t handle one more day of neglect. Here’s the thing, when I look at the outside of my house, porch, and backyard that doesn’t look the way I want it to, I see work, and that leads to increasing my stress level with more stuff “to do.”

Transforming Your Home's Exterior: Tips for Enhancing Curb Appeal and Creating a Welcoming Entry

For years, I’ve dreamed of transforming my home's exterior into a private oasis that reflects my personal style. The paint color always bothered me, and the backyard was just waiting for the right touches to become my retreat. With a little therapy, I’ve realized just how important it is for my subconscious to address these areas, especially after my divorce in 2020. I’ve finally decided to take action and tackle this long-awaited project.

I’m having my house repainted navy with white trim (yes, I hired this part out!) and adding dark brown stained wood accents on the front porch and in the backyard. The nautical theme is my happy place—there's nothing like being on the water with the sun shining and a cocktail in hand.

Along with the paint job, I’m updating the landscaping with new edging, plants, fresh mulch, and solar lighting. I've invested in a comfortable patio set (outdoor furniture isn’t cheap!), and I’m paving areas for barefoot-friendly spaces. It’s already coming together beautifully, and it’s keeping me motivated to finish!

What Makes a Fabulous Entryway? Curb Appeal Starts at the Street!

Curb appeal is key to making a lasting first impression. Here are some important factors to consider:

  • Is your yard mowed regularly? A well-kept lawn shows you care about your home.
  • Edging and sidewalks should be neat and tidy.
  • Mailbox in good shape? It should be standing up straight and easy to spot.
  • Proper lighting is essential—choose LED lights with less than 3000K lumens for a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
  • House numbers should be visible and easy to read. Personal touches like an Entry Envy sign featuring your last name or monogram can enhance your home's personality.

When guests arrive, whether it’s for a party, a delivery, or an Airbnb stay, having a clear, well-lit entry makes all the difference. An Entry Envy sign can help guests identify your home and immediately feel welcome.

Keep Your Front Porch Clean and Inviting

Your front porch should be as clean and inviting as the rest of your home. Clean the glass on your front door regularly—it sets the tone for the rest of your home. A well-maintained porch shows that the inside of your house is just as cared for.

  • Doormat tip: Choose a doormat that’s at least 3x4 feet, in good condition, and seasonal. This simple hack can make your porch look larger and impress your guests.
  • Landscaping should always be in shape, with fresh mulch and defined edges. Don’t forget about flower pots or planters—if you're not a green thumb, opt for silk flowers that require little maintenance but still add color.

Create an Inviting Atmosphere with Thoughtful Details

Here are a few other touches to elevate your entryway:

  • Add an Alexa Echo or Dot to play music (it’s a high-end retail shopping center vibe!).
  • Use a plug-in diffuser for a pleasant scent that greets guests before they even enter your home.
  • A pair of chairs and a table or a bench with seasonal pillows adds a cozy touch.
  • Coordinate your decor: Make sure planters, rugs, wreaths, and flags are complementary. If you need help, use your Entry Envy refill decor kit to create a harmonious color scheme.
